Our hearts go out to the family of Selvum Pillay, who passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017. Selvum was a member of Gillian's Place Board of Directors between September 2011 and September 2016, when she resigned, due to illness.
Selvum grew up in South Africa during very difficult times; came to Canada with her husband, who set up and had a very successful family practice with her support and assistance; attended Brock University and became a teacher, and was an active volunteer and contributor to her community.
We, at Gillian’s Place, knew Selvum as soft-spoken and compassionate. She loved her family with all her heart, had a sunny and optimistic view of life, and was passionate about women's issues. She always expressed her gratitude for having the opportunity to be a member of Gillian's Place Board and to be able to have a positive influence on the women and children we served.
Selvum was a great listener who, when she spoke, was able to provide a different perspective with valuable and unique insights. Selvum influenced our Board of Directors to make better and more compassionate decisions.
