Eden High School Students Win $5000 for Gillian's Place
Grade 10 students all over Canada are eligible to participate in a unique program called the Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI). The initiative is designed to get youth to compassionately engage in a social cause and give them an early taste of philanthropy.
This year, Gillian's Place was fortunate enough to be the charity of choice for 4 Eden High School students, Kaylyn, Devin, Alexa and Paige. After presenting their research to their Civics and Careers class, this group was chosen to move forward to the finals, and compete for a chance to win $5000 for their charity.
On June 6th, 3 groups presented their projects to a larger audience at Eden. Kaylyn, Devon, Alexa and Paige articulated the importance of Gillian's Place and the work we are doing to address the issue of gender-based violence. After an excellent presentation and a brief judging period, the 4 young leaders were announced as the winner of the YPI competition and were given a cheque for $5000 to donate to Gillian's Place. We are so honoured to support these incredible women on their journey to the YPI finals.
